Photographer’s Statement

It is in the private and joyful act of observation where the art of photography and poetry overlap, so it is no surprise that my flower and nature photography is primarily up-close and personal. With the meditative practice of deep noticing, “beauty breaks in everywhere”—as Emerson famously wrote. Framing and taking the photograph I want is both the challenge and the delight. I don’t filter or manipulate the photos digitally. I hope you enjoy this selection of images. More will continue to be added over time.
A member of The Garden Club of America and a retired Master Gardener, I offer a fun and informative presentation entitled The Wonder of Woodland Wildflowers: or Starting a Woodland Garden by Accident about reclaiming my wooded acreage from an impenetrable swath of invasive shrubs—bittersweet, honeysuckle, privet, barberry, and multiflora rose—to create a woodland garden, all by following my love of spring’s ephemeral wildflowers. The talk is illustrated with my photographs. And a poem or two.
